What is a disciple?
A disciple is typically understood as a “learner” or “follower” who adheres to the teachings of a specific teacher. Of course, in our context this refers to a person who is devoted to and follows Jesus Christ.
But being a disciple requires effort, because deliberate choice and intent are involved. At that ecstatically wonderful moment when we accept Jesus as our Savior, our journey has only just begun because, although our place in eternity is forever secured, we are still burdened with our old habits. This is called our ‘sin nature’.
Every person has inherited a sin nature ultimately resulting from Adam and Eve’s rebellion in the Garden. At the point of our salvation, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we begin to chip away at that sin nature. This is a life-long process in which we daily learn how to appropriate the teachings and precepts of Jesus into our daily lives.
I don’t feel Godly at all.
Well, of course not. None of us do, and that’s OK, because Jesus was and is the only person who could be said to be holy.
I Love God, Now What?
Some of us accepted Christ as our Savior years, maybe decades ago; some of us accepted Him yesterday. The difference means only that the one believer might, and only might, be one step further along in the journey. In the light of eternity, that one step amounts to nothing.
So, whether you are a seasoned or beginning believer, there is always something to learn. There is always a step we can take to be closer to God, always a chip that can be knocked off our sin-nature.
I Love God, Now What is a series of four books intended to guide us into a deeper communion with God. We start with the very basic questions of ‘Why should I fear God?’ or ‘Why should I trust Him?’ and eventually move into deeper questions like ‘Why do I need salvation?’ and ‘How do I abide in Christ?’
There are links in this site to enable you to support our ministry through the purchase of these books, which we hope you will do, and links to engage with the weekly podcasts which investigate the implications of these questions.
We hope you are blessed.
